A Campaign to Raise $100,000 for Unison Festival

THE VISION: Every four years, the Unison Festival brings together thousands of singers from across Canada for a non-competitive celebration of music, community, and 2SLGBTQIA+ identity. As we look toward our future, we are launching the Unison Legacy Campaign: Giving in Unison. This $100,000 fundraising initiative is designed to ensure that the Unison Festival remains a sustainable, accessible, and world-class event that preserves our community’s history while investing in its future.

WHY WE ARE FUNDRAISING

The Unison Festival is more than just a concert series; it is a vital hub for the Canadian 2SLGBTQIA+ choral movement. With over 27 choirs and 1,000+ singers participating, the scale of our impact is growing. To meet this moment, we must secure the resources necessary to:

  • Enhance Accessibility: Ensuring that venues, transportation, and participation remain barrier-free for all singers, regardless of physical ability or financial means.

  • Commission New Works: Funding the creation of original Canadian choral music that reflects the diverse stories of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

  •  Support the Festival Ensemble: Expanding our newest initiatives, such as the 2STNB Ensemble (Two-Spirit, Trans, and Non-Binary), providing specialized spaces for underrepresented voices.

  •  Build the Unison Archive: Documenting the “Legacy” of our movement to ensure the history of queer choral music in Canada is preserved for generations to come.

THE GOAL: $100,000

We are seeking contributions from champions of the arts and advocates for equality. These funds will be allocated across four primary pillars:

  • Sustainability & Legacy ($40,000): Technology and infrastructure to manage Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQIA+ choral network and its quadrennial festival.

  • Build the Unison Archive ($30,000): Documenting the “Legacy” of our movement to ensure the history of queer choral music in Canada is preserved for generations to come.

  • Innovation & Artistry ($15,000): Supporting world-class conductors, artistic directors, and the commissioning of landmark musical scores.

  • Equity & Inclusion ($15,000): Travel bursaries for marginalized singers and full accessibility services (ASL interpretation, sensory-friendly spaces, etc.).
